The sexual abuse of children is without a doubt one of the most atrocious and inhuman crimes of our time. Each year, millions of children are abused worldwide. The perpetrators often document their crimes using photographs or videos.
Millions of pornographic images of children are circulating throughout the worldwide data communications network – the Internet. This problem is compounded by the presence of numerous videos and other types of files containing child pornography on the Internet.
The exchange of child pornography over the Internet is increasing dramatically and rapidly in light of relatively low rates of investigative success. And police investigations show how well-developed this online trade has become: This is because, once a child pornography file begins to circulate, it is never taken off the market.
The age of the abused children is decreasing as well. Recently, even babies and small, diaper-aged children have been groomed as “performers” by the child pornography industry. The videos are also becoming ever-more violent. Children are sometimes handcuffed, beaten, or even whipped.
Furthermore, not only sexual practices between adults (men & women) and children or children and other children are recorded, but now children are also being forced to perform sexual acts on animals.
Although the number of recordings of violence and bestiality remains lower than other types of child pornography, a disturbing trend can be observed which indicates that this type of material is achieving more popularity.
