Protecting intellectual property in the Internet age is a virtually impossible task. Especially for industry branches that must forfeit billions in revenues worldwide as a result of violations against existing copyrights, fighting these kinds of offences is a tremendous challenge.
But the government which, as a result of the illegal trade of pirate copies, loses huge amounts of taxes that would otherwise be collected from the sale of originals in retail stores, also has a vested interest in protecting copyrights.
Particularly the existence of small businesses, which depend on the sale of their products for survival, is threatened by software, music and film piracy or similar forms of copyright violations.
naiin in the fight against piracy
naiin specifically targets pirate copies on the Internet. The initiative uses a variety of investigative methods to detect violations against their members' intellectual property rights. The naiin investigators concentrate on manufacturers and distributors of pirated goods. naiin does not pursue consumers.
naiin makes another contribution to creating an environment in which the intellectual property rights of others are accepted and respected through its public relations work and its political action.
