A year's subscription instead of what you assumed was a one-off deal, expensive membership fees instead of what you were assured was free participation or left empty handed instead of receiving the product you paid for? There seems to be no end to the schemes to rip off consumers online. Internet scammers in particular play on people's naivety and good faith, including that of children and young people.
And consumers being ripped off online often end up paying for a service they have not asked for when asked to pay, because it is not unusual for scammers to pressurize them - by sending them questionable correspondence threatening legal action, for example, if they don't pay up.
